Top Ten Reasons to Have a Wedding Blog

Some people love my wedding blog... some don't let me live it down. I think a couple of people even stalk me on it. I didn't know what was going to come of having a wedding blog, and really didn't imagine I would keep at it. I can honestly say, however, that I am quite pleased at my decision to maintain my blog, and can't wait until I'm in the thick of planning so I have more details to write about! I am going to start having some weekly highlights/spotlights, but until May 8th, my hands are pretty tied from wedding planning. That is just the nature of planning a wedding with Disney. Without this blog, I doubt I'd even feel engaged except for the ring on my finger! In fact, I will go as far as to recommend blogging to all my engaged and future engaged friends! Why not?!?! So, without further ado, here are my top ten reasons to keep a wedding blog!

10. You can make money! Okay, you're not going to fund your retirement, and you'd be hard pressed to be able to pay next months rent. With the exception of extremely talented writers, you won't get much... but you can get something! Put a couple of adds up, what do you have to lose??? Just don't over do it and kill the look of your page! If people are turned off, they won't visit... which means no money.

9. You may post something that helps someone out! Maybe you'll find the certain item that someone else has been scouring the internet for. I find so many things that I've been on the prowl for from other people and their blogs, its unbelievable really. I don't recall the last time I even went to one of those wedding sites, think theknot.com and brides.com. They are great and extremely useful , yes, but with blogs, you get real advice from real people. Its great. Hopefully I can help someone else out along my blogging journey.

8. Its healthy. Let your creative juices flow! Really, it doesn't matter what you say, or if anyone reads it. Be yourself. Its great to practice your writing and improve vocabulary. You don't need to be the next Victor Hugo, I just read the Hunchback of Notre Dame, but just be yourself.

7. You can brag! Hahaha... I don't mean to sound conceited, but who doesn't like to "toot their own horn" once in awhile??? It can be quite fun and rewarding to convey your excitement and share with other people.

6. Its a good, healthy way to vent. Granted, you shouldn't focus on that person you don't like, or that vendor that screwed you over forever, but it is good (and healthy!) to get things off your chest. It is like your own little support group! Also, when posting about vendors, you can warn people if they are bad, and sing their praises if they are good.

5. You find so many blogs to read, and so many great ideas! I had never even heard of the "Gocco" until I began blogging... now I dream of the day I have my very own!!!

4. Its a helpful little community in the blog-world. :) You can get great advice and feedback from everything like hair styles to invitations. What a great opportunity to perfect your wedding planning and not miss out on a great idea!!! People are so generous with their thoughts, and will tell you their honest opinions. Many of these people have experiences with post topics, and there's nothing better than learning from someone with experience.

3. You can share your ideas with family and friends! Granted there is a fine line between what you should share, since you don't want to give everything away. For example, if your bridesmaids are reading, you certainly shouldn't be posting what their gifts are going to be on your blog before they get them. You need to decide from the beginning if you are going to let your friends and family know about your blog... really think about it. There are times I've wanted to post bridesmaid gift ideas, only to realize they might read it. I'm glad I share mine though, it is much easier than sending out spam e-mails constantly, and much more rewarding.

2. It is great to be able to organize thoughts and ideas. I can't tell you how many hundreds of sites I have saved to my "bookmarks." I never even go to them, because there are just so many that I barely remember which ones are what and they end up just being forgotten. Not so with the blog. You post the pic and the site, add a label and its easy as ever to locate when you need it!

And finally, my #1 reason to have a wedding blog...

1. The blog doesn't go anywhere. Five years from now (barring blogger.com shutting down business) I'll be able to look back and remember everything. Its like a journal. What a great thing to have, look back and appreciate!

How do you sign up to have ads on your blog? And you do I get three columns on my blog like you!?!?! And one more thing - how do you crossout things on your to-do list?!

Thanks =)

Future Mrs. H -

I cannot find your e-mail! Therefore you will be getting spammed, one on here and one on your blog!

Under your blog title in dashboard, there is a "monetize" link. Click that and it will get you started. You will also have to open a google adsense account. Let me know if you have problems finding any of the links, I can send them your way.

The three column blog is a just an HTML layout. I could forward you mine, but it would remove all the cute little aspect of your blog!!! It can be a hassle too, since you have to re-setup all of your gadgets. Ugh. In any case, you could make a testing blog that you can play around with until you like the look. I just changed all of the colors and added a header from a generic HTML. You could also google 3-column blog layouts, see what you get! They may even have a 3-column version of yours!! Again, let me know if I can help.

Crossing things out is the easiest (and most fun!) of the three!!! Since it does not allow me to post HTML here, I will use ( and ) in place of < and >. Make sense??? just type (del)your word here(/del) ! Simple! Hope that helps!!!

I love your checklist and agree with your Number 1! Blogging, in addition to being a great way of sharing ideas, is a way to Pay It Forward...
